Is my wood dry enough?

There are a number of ways to determine if your wood is seasoned and ready to burn, here are a few.

1. Wood will darken as it dries, it will change from a white or cream color to a grey.
2. Cracks in the end of the log, the amount and depth of the cracks will increase as it dries.
3. Bang two pieces together, it should sound hollow and not solid or dull
4. Seasoned wood weighs much less then wet wood.

Buying your wood in the spring (at the very latest) before you plan to use it, will allow you to monitor the season process. Test your wood periodically throughout your seasoning process and you will notice the changes listed above.
